HOW AND WHY THIS WEBSITE GOT BUILT

Eight months ago, (in 2005) I decided to build this website for my Dad, even though I had not a clue about how to do it. I knew next to nothing about a computer, hardly more than O-N-O-F-F. I also was happy not knowing much about using a computer. Computers are hard to understand and most of all, for a non-computer person, they are boring beyond belief.

Eventually, though, the idea of this website took hold of my life and mind and would not let go. Some nagging, persistent voice kept pushing me to create a web scrapbook for my Dad. When I couldn't stand it any longer, I leaped into the void, determined to learn everything needed to build a website worthy enough to showcase my Dad's work.

Now that it's finally finished, I believe it's necessary to give credit to those who helped me accomplish this nearly-impossible feat.

The technical support and training I received is available all over the internet. The web-building community generously shares their codes and expertise. I also took endless hours of tutorials and classes including online/on campus college classes, online Macromedia Tech Support as well as in-person seminars, even with private tutors from the Geek Squad. It all helped, because once I got started, I couldn't stop tinkering and searching and trying things until I was satisfied with the outcome. Without the support and assistance of these and the following entities, I could not have started this project, much less finished it.

For all of my friends and family, and especially my sainted husband, John, who endured months of my whining, sniveling and complaining, I thank you for your constant help and patience. Hopefully, the results justify all the time you spent encouraging me to stay the course and finish the job.

And of course, to my lion-hearted Dad, Don Schmidt, for the incredible inspiration he is for this website, and for my life. Dad, I guess this site actually took 84 years and 8 months to build. Thanks for hanging in there.
