With deepest sadness, we regret to inform you that
Don Schmidt
left us peacefully in his sleep and went
to be with God
on January 6, 2010.

This is the biography of Don Schmidt, an orphan of the Depression, and a heroic member of America's greatest generation. Don (also known as Fred) served in the US Navy from 1940-1966 as a Photographer's Mate. When he retired from the Navy as a Lieutenant, he made a second career as the photographer for the world famous San Diego Zoo. This website is a very small collection of his photos, and is dedicated in celebration of Don's distinguished Naval career, and his special life.
